An Overview of the Department
Welcome to the Department of Anesthesia at Georgetown University Hospital, a proud member of MedStar Health. The Chairman of the Department is Young Kim, M.D. We hope to provide useful information to our patients and visitors to our institution, as well as our future residents, and current faculty, residents, and staff.
The Department provides perioperative care in multiple locations throughout the medical center. Anesthetics are administered in the General Operating Room (15 rooms), Same Day/Ambulatory Surgery (6 rooms), Labor & Delivery, and various satellite locations including the G.I. Endoscopy Suite and Interventional Radiology. Members of the department also provide care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). We are available for pre-operative consultations for all patients seen at the Pre-operative Testing Center.
Our services are available 24 hours per day. Two attending anesthesiologists take call overnight to provide care for the main operating rooms, labor and delivery, pain management, and in-hospital airway emergencies and cardiac arrests.
To contact us, please call (202) 444-8640 and ask for either Sandra Raspberry (Executive Assistant to the Chairman) or Brinder Singh (Department Administrator).
